Answered Prayer
by Peggy Grimes
When I move into this house 12 years ago with my one cat I decided I needed a dog. But I have alergies. So I needed one of three breeds. Most of all I needed someone to love. Things were not going well in my life then. I prayed and prayed for Love. I knew there was the right and perfect pet for me. And for my cat Honey who was now alone. His litter mate had taken off right before the move. I looked in the local shelters and in the Humane society. No Luck. My best friend said I should settle for a pretty, quiet shelty mix. I was seriously considering it. In fact I'd asked them to hold her until Mon night for my decession. Then Mon noon I had a free hour in Waterbury. I zipped down to the Humane Society nearby on a hunch. I got out of the car my eyes were riveretted on a small gray dog bounching against the fence in the far cage. I ran to him, heart singing. It was he. It was my Love from God. They demanded $60. in cash. I turned out my purse, the car floor and seats. I came up with my last dime to bail him out. Some of them sneared at Fred. He had a few problems. He got sick a lot, his ribs were sticking out. He had a tendency to snap at some people. But he curled up on the front seat while I made my home visit. Today he was so sick. He's been not good for almost a year but I kept hopeing and trying new meds. But today the spark was replaced by pain. Now he is bounching and dancing for all the others at the bridge. He also sings. He loves people as long as he comes home with me. So I say thank you God. This was 1000 times more that I ever thought to ask! My cup/life has overflowed with this small miracle of a soul. Keep him busy and out of the garbage until I can join him.
