Annies Song
by Erika Harman
January 6 2000. In what was supposed to be a New Year full of history in the making.Ours started off with the untimely death of one of our babies....a sweet female ferret we called Sis.She was a gorgeous little blaze ferret and we named her Sis because of her uncanny resemblance to another fuzzy we have...a beautiful boy named Jetson. Her demise was so fast and we felt crushed when the vet said she had lymphosarcoma. Nothing could be done.We buried her a year ago today,at this same hour in which I am writing this.We missed her so very much and Jetson was a constant reminder of her that at times made us alternately happy or overwhelmingly sad. In July we got a call from my husbands sister. She worked with someone who had found a ferret just walking down the road she lived on,and through conversation found that we were enthusiasts and we were asked to rescue this baby and give her a good home filled with other happy ferrets. When we went to pick this little girl up,we both looked at each other and smiled, because this little girl looked so much like our little Sister! Whatever anyone else thinks,we like to think this little angel who looks and plays so much like Sis was sent to ease our pain of losing such a precious pet. Annie has become something very special to us and like Sis,we find it hard not to pick her up and and kiss her and lose ourselves in her beauty.Rest in peace my sweet little Sister.I miss you so much, and I'm so grateful to have Annie here to remind me of the love I had and always will have for you.
