Pooh Kitty needed sanctuary from her many brothers and sisters and decided to try spending the night sleeping in the under-carriage of Uncle Mikes Jeep. Early the next morning, Uncle Mike jumped into his Jeep, started the engine and took off down the highway before Pooh Kitty knew what was happening. They rode a fast 30 miles, Pooh clinging onto the cold metal underneath the Jeep, all the way to Mikes job. The minute he pulled into his parking spot he saw the cat jump from his front wheel well and run under another parked car.
He recognized the cat, didn't like cats, and decided his household would be better-off with one less feline.
This is where I came in. Two days later, Pooh was still in the parking lot. When Uncle Mike pulled in in the morning, Pooh set herself on the hood of his jeep, hoping he would take her home. Since he said he would not do that, I took her home with me, 20 miles north of Mikes. I listened to but didn't believe his story about this cat riding down the highway in the undercarriage of a car! Anyway, Miss Pooh Kitty became the most spoiled cat imaginable. She eats from her own cut glass bowls, has several beds, and a cat gym! I love her dearly, more than anything in the world.
Six months after she came to live with me, I decided to try getting a second cat. Mike said I should go to his house, as his sisters cat just had another litter. When I got to their house, a large version, perfect replica, of Pooh, was sitting on the porch to greet me. Mikes sister confirmed that she had lost this cats little girl, and yes the cat had looked exactly like her mother! She'd been so worried about it all those months, as Mike never told her what happened.
If you've lost a cat, that animal may be 50 or 100 miles away, hitching a ride as Pooh did. And just maybe, like Pooh, that cat is living like a lion-king in the lap of luxury, with all the comforts a cat deserves. It's a nice way to think about a lost cat. So spread out those posters for many miles, and check shelters in communities all over your state. That lost cat may still be looking for you, or she could be sheltered safe, in the arms of someone who loves her.
