Sir Gilbert of Surrey
This poem was written for:
Kim
And all of us that have loved and lost...
When I first saw you I knew your name
And the noble rights you would come to claim
When I first held you in my arms
My heart was enlightened with all your charm
Hard work ahead, but we made it through
And from your love came ribbons of blue
How hard you worked to do me proud
My humble friend I say aloud this love
We shared could only be
For Sir Gilbert of Surrey
My friend and me
All the runs, the barks and licks
With all the little silly tricks
Combined with all your loving way's
Make looking back on happy days
A wonderful gift I'll always keep
Until were joined in endless sleep
These words of praise I right for you
I know that you see and know that there true
So until we meet at heavens door
Let me tell just once more
This life on earth so short but sweet
Was only to prepare us for when we meet
In God's green pasture will make our home
And never have to be alone
