Ode to Brandy
by Lane Huntsinger
Ode to Brandy I stood on the lawn as the garage door was lifted Eight bundles of joy wisked past me - they pranced and they twisted But there on a cinder block sat pup number nine As soon as I saw you I knew you were mine Our eyes met that instant - a love at first sight I knew you were mine - sitting there in the light You sat very quietly - just sizing me up While my heart swelled with love for this small Sheltie pup Your name would be Brandy My April Fool's Treat Forever my companion, my friend, kind and sweet I gave you my love, my home and my heart You gave me unconditional love and devotion from the start Our days spent together brought laughter and joy Dedication and loyalty no man can destroy My love for you Brandy is like a love for no other Your devotion to me like a child to it's mother Time passed much to quickly as it often will Our days became numbered when you became ill I knew you were tired and wanted to rest But letting you go was far more than a test The love of my life was now slipping away My deared friend Brandy - could no longer stay My precious memories of you will carry me through When we meet at the Bridge we will then start anew No more sickness or sorrow for you and I to bear Only happiness and peace we two will share Wait for me now at the Bridge for awhile I will come and get you there - with a hug and a smile Sweet Dreams My Friend All My Love Mom
