My Little Dog, Scamper
by Les Jesperson
My Little dog, Scamper We had little Scamper for fourteen years, She was very dear to me. We shared the bed, she ate our food. She was excellent company. And when I took the motorcycle, On the gastank she did ride. When we hiked, I tried to fool her, But she would find me when I'd hide. She would guard the car when left alone. Threaten who came near. Chase the biggest bull on the range. There was nothing she would fear. She understood when I talked to her. When my dear wife passed away. She licked my hand in sympathy. She really made my day. I took her to the Vet one day. As she didn't act her best. He said the cancer did it's job, I'll have to put her to rest. Who said, "Only people go to heaven." To this I don't agree. Because if I get up there. I'll find her, Chasing a chipmunk up a tree. Les Jesperson.
