I told the animal control officer that I wanted
a dog no one wanted. The ACO said he might have a Chow who had been in an
apartment a week with no food or water but was getting a search warrent to go
in and rescue her.(I thought a Chow was a little fur ball).I got the call to
finally meet Jenny at the vets where she was treated for malnutrition and
dehydration.(Jenny was a big fur ball)matted fur too! I was told never to trust
her and that she wasen't housebroken either. I cleaned, cut and brushed her
everyday and renamed her Honey Bear. At first when I went to pat her she
cringed so I knew she had also been beat.Honey had never been on walks before
she was so afraid you could tell. The first walk Honey and I took she found a
chicken bone and I plucked it out of her mouth(no problem trusting her). Honey
was so clean she would only use the back yard if she had to oyherwise she would
wait fir her walk. Six months after I got Honey I entered her in a local dog
show and she took 1st Place and the right to wear the #1 dog tag in
Salem,Ma.Also a plaqe at city hall with her name. The vets that voted for Honey
never recognized her as the Chow they had taken care of! Honey was an extremely
gentle dog but a good watch dog. Someone once suffered a siezure alone with
Honey and forever after that if the family member coughed Honey would run and
jump on the bed to make sure the family member was alright. Honey's age was
estimated at 1 or 2 yrs. old when I was lucky enough to get her and I had her
for 4 wonderful yrs. in which she taught me so much.Three weeks ago Honey was
diagnosed with a fast moving cancer and I was told to bring her home and spoil
her. I had Honey for 10 more days when I could see she was starting to feel
pain,I held her in my arms telling her what a good girl she was and there was
no more pain, it was instant and she did look like she was sleeping and it was
peaceful.I will always be glad I could be there for her at that time because
Honey was never more than 2ft. away from me wherever I was in the house yet
never in the way. So this is a tribute to Honey Bear the dog no one wanted.
Even though terribly mistreated she loved and trusted 100%. How I miss her.
Your a good girl Honey Bear and I LOVE YOU.
