Timber, Wolf and April
by Sharon Kitchens
Timber was a 1/2 Lab, 1/2 Golden retriever that I got on August 24, 1987 when she was 7 weeks old. She went to the Rainbow Bridge June 10, 2000 after cancer made it impossible for her to go on. Her joys were simple and few, to be loved on and to eat. Retrieving was good and swimming was good, but loving and eating were IT! Timber had a big sister, Wolf, who went to the Rainbow Bridge on February 2, 1998. Wolf had been an only child for 5 years, and her dad and I were a little concerned when Timber joined the family. We weren't sure how Wolf would react. Dad, the pessimist, thought Wolf would dislike her sister intently, Mom the optimist thought otherwise. Mom was right! Wolf adored Timber at first sight. She let that puppy pull on every one of her body parts without making any kind of fuss. She played with her instanteously, and she worried when Timber cried at night. They were best buddies from the first day up until Wolf passed away. April, a dobie, joined our family on June 20, 1990. Timber hated her instantly, Wolf was Wolf, she loved April instantly - but Timber was still her best buddy. April, affectionally known as the Mass Destroyer, Adored Timber! She was determined that Timber was going to love her, if she had to destroy everything Mom and Dad owned to accomplish it! Luckily for Mom and Dad, she only had to destroy 1/2 of everything they owned before Timber finally accepted her into the family (though Wolf was still her best buddy too). Dogs feel so much, Timber never got over Wolf's passing, and April cannot get over Timber's. After all neither remembered life without their big sis! These 3 dogs are and were our family, and while our family has grown with Roxie and Aspen (who we love dearly) to keep April company, out family will always include Timber and Wolf. And we take great comfort knowing they are waiting for us.
