Jakey
by Joan L
The tears fall non-stop. Jakey, I loved you so much. I hope you knew. I remember the way you came up to the front of the cage when I was adopting you. You picked me with your all black kitten body and the little white spot on your chest--like a crest to fortell how regal you would become. You gave your little plaintive, staccato "Merrow" and it was love at first sight. I'll always miss your quirky little ways--how you purred so hard, you would squeak and then sometimes almost choke or hickup. It was so cute. Your beautiful sleek body failed you at the end, but I never will, my darling trusting soul. I'll never forget your trusting little eyes looking up at me for love and reasurance. I'm so sorry, baby. Please forgive me. I did it because I love you. There'll neve be another like you. Can't go on...the tears cloud my vision. Until we meet again.
