One Last Kiss
by Angela Lauer
I grab your leash, It's time to go, You limp towards me, pain in your eyes. I reach down to hold you, An ache in my heart, tears in my eyes, We walk towards the door one last time, The air is cool, rain coming down, The drive seems longer, You look at me with trusting eyes, A soft cry from your voice, We enter the room, They say there will be no pain, I'm in the room we are alone, I hold you close, caress your face, You nuzzel me, it will be alright, You lay down to go to sleep, I hold you close, there is no pain, I hold you close for one last time, Then I give you One Last Kiss and say goodbye.
