I adopted Seti at a shelter at a cat show when his previous owner moved away and left Seti outdoors. Someone brought him into the shelter the night before the cat show, and I was lucky enough to find him. I adopted Seti on May 9, 1996, much to the chagrin of one of the judges who wanted him as well.
When I brought Seti to my vet to have him checked out, my vet was shocked when I told him the story about Seti. Both the judge at the cat show and my vet informed me that Seti was a show cat and about 3-5 years old. I didn't care about showing him, I just loved his big blue eyes, his "Ewok" face, and his wonderful, loving personality.
When I brought him home with me, he walked around my condo in New Jersey once and curled up as if to say, "ahhh, I've found a good home" .
When I moved my three cats to Florida, they all adjusted quickly to the expanded living quarters; but Seti loved the pool area as he had the entire caged lanai area. He loved sitting in the lounge chair all day. When Seti was hungry, he would pound his front paws on the kitchen pantry. When it was time to go to bed, I would open the glass patio door in my bedroom and call Seti. Seti would walk into the bedroom and jump on my bed. He loved sleeping next to me - always touching me.
Li Ming and Seti were best buds and loved playing together.
On Saturday, Seti didn't seem to have much of an appetite; but as he was always a picky eater, I didn't think much of it. He was still jumping up on the counters. On Saturday night, Seti was still sleeping curled up and touching me while Li Ming (my Shih Tzu) was sleeping on the pillow next to me.
On Sunday he started having trouble breathing, wouldn't eat even tuna or drink any water. That's when I took him up to the emergency vet. While filling out the paperwork, Seti died suddenly in my arms. I screamed out for help (as no one was at the front desk at the time) and the vet tried to resuscitate him. When vet came out alone, I knew that Seti didn't make it. He told me that Seti died of congestive heart failure. I took Seti's body home with me for one final view before being cremated. He looked so peaceful - just like Seti, the Lion King.
Seti loved getting his lion cuts, loved to play, and loved sleeping curled up touching me at night. While I know Seti had a good life with me and the other kids, I will miss him very much. I know he's brought lots of love to me, Sheba (my 11-year old Calico), Tut (my 11-year old Russian Blue), and especially Li Ming (my 3-year old Shih Tzu) and hopefully he's watching over all of us in heaven.
Seti, thank you for sharing the last seven years of your precious life with me. I love you and miss you dearly. Li Ming and I are both mourning Seti's death.
Seti, may you rest in peace.
