The years they passed so quickly, a puppy I was no more
I could not run and play with you, as we once did before.
The pain got worse as each day passed, you saw it in my walk.
Youd hold me in your loving arms, with soothing gentle talk.
The doctors did all that they could, it's time to take me home.
Hold me close and kiss my nose, for soon Ill have to roam.
I always knew you had the strength, and when the time was right.
You would know what you should do, and when to end the fight.
I loved you always, you knew that, and I knew you loved me.
You showed it when we took that ride, the last we did as we.
Once again you held me, much closer than before.
Your tears of love streamed down your face, Ive never loved you more.
We stared into each others eyes, then mine they slowly closed.
My body in your gentle arms, in a peaceful sleeping pose.
I looked down and saw there, holding me so tight.
I saw the sorrow in your tears, and wished with all my might.
That somehow you would know what you have done for me
Was the greatest act of kindness that there could ever be.
My pain is gone and I am young, and playing now with Beau.
We both are waiting at the Bridge, his play toy still in tow.
Dont cry for us, for we are here, your faithful sons we two.
And never fear what comes your way, were watching over you.
Were looking in the distance, for when your time shall end.
Well guide you to the great beyond, our master and best friend.
Patiently were watching just over the yonder ridge.
With all the other kids like us- waiting at the Bridge.
