We remember the day you came to us,
You looked at us with hopeful eyes
That said, "Please may I stay?"
We fed you and cared for you:
And welcomed you in to our home and heart.
Through the years we became the best of friends,
We couldn't imagine we'd ever part.
You greeted us when we came home
With happiness beyond compare.
You followed us from room to room,
Our hearts were glad you were there.
When we were happy, so were you.
You comforted us when we were sad.
You never complained-your love was true,
Through all the years we had.
We saw you grow old and tired,
Your steps were ever so slow.
You stayed closer to us than ever,
For you knew you would soon have to go.
Then you were gone, and we felt our hearts break.
We felt our eyes burn with tears.
Oh what would we do without our dear little friend,
Through all the lonely years?
But one day our tears were gone,
And grief did depart.
We found the gift you left us,
You left your love-
- Here in our hearts.
