by Foster Mom
I'm a foster mom, and I met Smokey's owner when the almost grown child was finally removed from his horrible home.
Smokey came to this lonely only child when the child was just four, and through the years was the only friend the child had. Together they lived through all the loney nights when the child was locked in his room, and all the loney days when the child was never allowed any friends. Smokeys fur soaked up many tears. Smokey tenderly licked the many wounds the child received from his parents.
When the child was finally rescued, Smokey was also welcomed to my home. They had one very wonderful year here.
Today, we ended Smokeys suffering, he had cancer. A hard decision for this now young man to make. Giving up his one and only true childhood friend, but it was done with love and kindness.
Tonight a very sad and heartbroken young man must now face the world alone without the one thing that got him this far. Smokey.
Godspeed Dear Smokey, you have earned your place at the Rainbow bridge until you are joined by your best friend. Thank you for being there, thank you for doing the thing that dogs do best, loving, loving little sad boys who only want to be loved.
