"Just" a Cat Our Little JJ
How sweet a nature you possessed
To match that face so dear
A tabby coat and tawny tum
Small tufts on perky ears
And how you loved to be caressed
and held, and spoken to
You answered every word I said
Im sure you really knew
that in my heart
your love had forged
a very special bond
An overwhelming tenderness
and something still beyond
We took you in five years ago
and little did we know
how blessed wed be just knowing you
and how our love would grow
I never really understood
Why you were left alone
By people who had had the chance
to keep you for their own
Perhaps thats why you cherished us
As much as we did you
You always seemed so grateful
As if you truly knew
You were a little mischievous
on any given day
On stocky legs youd tear around
Inviting us to play
Each day there would be laughter
at the antics youd perform
And then youd curl up in my lap
and keep me close and warm
You followed me around each day
more like a dog than cat
Your company would soothe my nerves
And I was certain that
Youd be with us for many years
Providing precious joy
I never really realized
How much I loved my "boy"
And so my sweet, sweet JJ
My precious little friend
May God take special care of you
And help my heart to mend
Please wait for me with those I love
Ill be there, too, one day
Until that time my little pal
Within my heart youll stay.
