Sammi
by Kelly P.
In 1996 I talked my mom into getting a cat. She liked persions, so we found a breeder. Sammi's fur was a fluke, it was shorter than a normal persions was supposed to be. She was the only kitten that came up to us, the others all ran. But Sammi walked up and whined to be held. I guess you could call it love at first site, because I talked my mom into getting her. We took her home that day, on the way my mom ran into a pet supply store and bought everything we needed, while Sammi and I waited in the car. I had read that it was better to keep a cat in a small room the first night, so they can get used to the new surroundings. She cried so loudly that night that I took a pillow and blanket and slept on the bathroom floor with my kitten. Sammi grew up to be a beautiful cat, who loved to just run and jump. Whether it was running to do a bellyflop and slide into the bathtub, or just run around my room and jump on and off my bed. I treated her like she was a princess. When she got declawed I turned on an animal show wrapped a blanket around her and sat to watch TV with her. I carried her water and food to her and carried her to and from the litter box! She helped me a lot with my parents divorce. When I was really sad or upset she would rub her head against mine and stop when her forhead was against mine. Then she would just look at me as if to say everything will be okay, be happy. When my mom got remarried in '97, we moved to a big house. Sam and I were both used to small places and sammi started to shed a lot. She seemed very afraid and would hardly leave my side. After a while my mom said that she was allergic and she made me give away Sammi. We gave her to my mom's friend, I saw her a few times. Then my mom's friend gave her away. I don't know where my Sammi is, I don't know if she's safe or happy. I miss her so much and I wish I could see her again soon, and she could rub her head against mine like she used to, to reasure me and let me know that she's ok, wherever she is.
