Golden Memories
by Laura Pelaia
February 20, 1986- Soulful eyes, fur of gold, Daily walks, warm or cold, Floppy ears and heavy breath, Using you as our head rest, Sandy beaches, white capped waves, Baby bunnies we couldnt save, A little bump on top of your head Christmas wrap torn to shreds, Cries for attention in the dark, More a woof, than a bark, Tail thumping on the sheets, Flopping down at our feet, Toys to chew, sticks to crack Spins upon your Uncles back, Ball-y games youd always win, Harry dolls, with missing limbs, Saying Hi Chise, by the stairs, Hugging you to wipe away our cares, Socks and slippers as your friends, Petting that you never wanted to end, Love and affection never done, Less a dog, more a son. November 15, 2000 Love and affection never done, How could it be, then, that youre gone? Socks and slippers as your friends, Petting, but not memories, come to a screeching end, Saying Hi Chise by the stairs, Even though youre no longer there, Ball-y games youd always win, Air is cold, sun is dim Toys to chew, sticks to crack, Cant believe, you wont be back Tail thumping on the sheets, Hoping you know, well all again meet, Cries for attention in the dark, Cries to hear one more bark, A little bump on top of your head, Bitter sadness, that cant be said, Sandy beaches, white capped waves, All the love you had and gave, Floppy ears and heavy breath, Emptiness within our chests, Soulful eyes, fur of gold Swollen eyes, hearts gone cold
