Charlie
by Jennifer Rayner
Charlie - her name was Charlotte but only if she was in trouble! We were inseperable - she moved with me as far and wide as I travelled. How strange to feel a dog is your child, but she was. A present from my ex-husband, she was so very wanted. She was the child we both never had, and still has much to do with the incredibly strong bond Des and I still share as best friends, but not partners any more. We were both with her the morning she died - 3 years ago today. I can now talk about her without crying, and thinking of her brings tears of love, not grief. But there is not a day goes by that I don't miss my little girl, that I don't wish I could have 1 hour to cuddle her, to take her for a walk, let her do her 'stretches' like she used to do with Des, and stop at her favourite part of the river to let the wind rush through her fur. We always got stopped on our walks - an Old English always gets lots of attention...."look. it's the Dulux dog!" But she loved every minute of it. She was only on this earth for 8 and a half short years, but she changed my life forever. I miss you Charlie girl, and love you so much. Until I see you again XXXX
