"CHARLIE"
by BILL SCHULER
She was just a dog, as black as could be, she had been mistreated then she came to me. She was shy and timid and scared as a mouse, but she learned real soon that this was her house. I bought an old truck, just for her to ride, I never saw a dog so full of pride. She would ride down the street in her special place, hanging out the side with the wind in her face. She started getting sick about one year ago, the vet said cancer, malignant you know. We had it removed but it came back so fast, that's when we knew she just wouldn't last. So we got her a sister, a puppy who plays, to make her feel happy in her final days. Well, today she is happy, she took her last ride, in her old blue truck, her joy and her pride. As I left the Vets office, with no time to spend, I wanted to turn and go get my old friend. Now I look at the clock and it's almost seven, secure in my thoughts she's in doggie heaven. We'll miss her so much, Mom, Sammie, and Me, but we know in out hearts she is finally free.......4/6/00 We love you Charlie, Tootie, Shu, Sammie
