My Favorite Son
by Tanya Shirley
You're the one who chewed on my shoestrings as a pup, and you're the one who's captured my heart. The one who's loved me today and forever the way I have always loved you. Your toy box runneth over and you bring me them consistently. "I love you my dear boy but am too tired to play." "I'll regret that..."I say to myself "...someday." My therapist used to ask me always why do you cry so much when you talk about your dog, I say "Because of all the existences I've encountered, his has been true; he can't feign affection nor can he feign the joy he expresses when he sees me. I KNOW he loves me, I KNOW he loves me." And to this day I love my dog more than anything I could ever imagine...and I know he loved me too....
