My Diamond in the rough
by Jodi Touchstone
I remember the call telling me there was a cat I could have. A lady I had bought a cat from eight months prior contacted me. She said he would need a lot of attention. He and his brothers were in a cage for the first eight months of their lives, with virtually no human contact or space to run and play. I went see him, and there in the corner were 5 silver persians all huddled together. I knew immediately which one was going to go home with me. He was extremely timid, his fur all in matts, and he didn't know what was going on. He spent many days hiding under my bed. I had to slide food under to him. But after months of talking to him on the floor from the edge of the bed, he came out. He became the most loving cat I had ever seen. All he wanted was to be around people. He wanted to rub and be close no matter what you were doing. He would always watch every move I made with his big green eyes. Even when I was cooking he would be in and out of my ankles. He loved to greet my mom when she would visit. He knew she would pet him and talk gently to him, even though he was terrified of her when they first met. I know my Diamond is still around rubbing my ankles, and I know I will see him sitting one God's lap one day.
