For the love of Willy,
Willy was our families most cherished West Highland White Terrier. He was like a child to me and my husband and like an over-protective big brother to my children, ages 7 & 4. At the age of 11, he passed through rainbow bridge on Friday, Feb. 12. He was at peace, and now we have to find our own. Here is a tribute that we wrote to Willy, that we enclosed in his memorial chest, along with a photo and snippets of his white mane. We consider it a time capsule. We hope you enjoy it.
Our Dearest Willy,
As you lay contently in my lap, sleeping away, it is hard for me (as I fight back the tears) to imagine that tomorrow we will have to say good-bye to you. This week, as you were diagnosed with terminal cancer, my world got a lot lonlier. You have been our families steadfast companion for 11 years and coming to terms with the end of your life is almost more than I can bear. Allowing you to suffer is just not an option. You have been far too dear to us to permit that to happen.
You were my baby before I had my babies. You waited by my side as I rocked Kimberly and Connor, patiently awaiting you turn. In my heart of hearts, your soul is more human-like than dog-like. You have been an abundant blessing to our family. We will never, ever forget you! I cling to the hope that we will be together again someday...I pray it is true. I hope you know, as much as you are able to know, how much we love you.
Kimmy wants you to know that you are the best friend in the world.
Connor says he will really miss you, too.
Daddy and I are left with a hole in our hearts.
Sweet dream Willy. Rest in peace.
Love, Mommy, Daddy, Kimberly and Connor
