Anika
by Debbie Whitbread
Quietly, faithfully she stands by my side. Nothing to say, always diligently watching, ready to defend. Huge piercing almond shaped cocoa coloured eyes watching dutifully, always prepared to react to any foreign move towards her mistress. Nobly she stands neck arched to show her aristocratic head and small hooded ears. Absoulutely square, shimmering red coat, with ivory white feet and chest, a slim white blaze on her nose, she waits her turn.Off she goes with gazelle-like movement around the ring, doing everything she's asked to do, stop, stand, teeth-good girl! Triangle,Please! So with head held high, arched neck, tail tightly curled with an ivory tip, she covers the ground fluently and with grace out to one corner, across the top- beautiful even strides like a trotter in full motion; back to the start, stop, stand, look up, no words spoken just understood. Now as she relaxesthat beautiful tight tail has become a helicopter blade, arond and around it goes as her ears go back and she smiles in her special way.what a special girl she is, that magnificent elfin-like face with worried wrinkles that never fade. She growls from deep within her chest, just a warning to an invader its her territory to go away. Quietly she curls up on her mistress's lap. Anika, "sweetness of face" thats her name and thats who she is. My beautiful basenji girl went to the rainbow bridge the day before mothers day 2001 she is missed so much but loved still bye all GOODBYE MY LADY xxxxxxx love always Mum Sav Christian Johnny Kye and your son and daughter
