Sophie
by Marsha White
Sophie was only 7 weeks old when we got her. The most beautiful champagne-colored golden retriever I've ever seen. She was so sweet and gentle. Everyone loved her. Every time we went for a walk people would stop to pet her and tell us how beautiful and how nice she was. She was our baby. When she was a year old we took her in to have her spayed. We called at 4 o'clock to see how she was doing and the vet said everything went fine but he wanted to keep her overnight. At 9 o'clock he called to say she was gone. He came by after dinner to check on her and she had bled to death. Sophie, I am so sorry I left you there that day. When I looked back and saw you straining on the leash trying to follow me I had a bad feeling and knew I should take you with me. I am so sorry you had to die all alone on a cement floor in a cage. You must have been so scared. I can't stop crying for you and I think of you every day. It tears me up every time I hear the song I used to sing you. Everyone misses you so much, no one has forgotten you. I love you, Peeps, my beautiful sweet girl. I wish I could have you back. There will never be another dog like you.
