Who would have ever thought an ugly mug like yours would burrow such a huge hole in my heart? I couldn't wait for you to outgrow the "hyper boxer puppy" stage. Always happy, always bouncing, always eager to body slam legs as we walked through the door. That little nub of a tail going a mile a minute. Your big, brown eyes intently gazing into mine, you waited patiently for a tossed ball or doggie treat. You were the smartest dog I had ever encountered. As you grew, you became my best friend. You were my companion, my protector and my best boy. You came with me when I got married and accepted this man into "our family". This family grew as we added babies and you were the best babysitter and guardian. A gentle giant, you happily provided piggy back rides to giggling toddlers. With your mouth hanging open you looked as if you were smiling right along with us. You bravely defended our home and our children. You had many friends and were always eager to play. We laughed when you would come running with a huge tree branch or 2x4 in your teeth ready to play fetch. You were always eager to learn new tricks and games as Uncle Dave taught you to swing by your teeth from the tire swing in the back yard (to my dismay). There was nothing you would not try. I still can't believe you are gone. You were one of a kind, my friend. We will never be able to replace you. You were taken from us all too soon. I can still hear you calling to me at the back door to come in. Our house will never be the same. You are missed and loved very, very much. Rest in peace my brave hero. Until we will meet again.
