For you Dakota
by Amanda Zuchelli
I remember that day like it was yesterday. You knew it was your time. You knew it long before I did. I didn't want to admit it that day because I didn't want you to go. I sat and remembered all the times you were there for me, no matter what mood I was in. You were loving and faithful, even at the end. I remembered you dancing and barking everytime I came back home. I remembered you sleeping at the foot of my bed or just taking up the whole bed. You never left my side. That day though I rememered when you started to get sick. But even to that day you were always by my side. I didn't want to do it, but I knew that it was best for you. For my own selfish reasons I wanted to keep you forever. When the vet asked if I was ready I wanted to say no and walk out, but the tears started and I said yes. You gave your last kisses and didn't fight it. I told you I love you and what a good boy you were. Your beautiful browns eyes closed and you went into dream land. I wanted to ask one last favor of you... If you get a chance stop in my dreams to see me so I can hug, kiss, and take one more walk with you. Mom misses you and loves you so much.
