Memories of Mandy

It was a special day back in September 1993 when we met our Mandy-Girl for the first time at the Monroe County Animal Shelter in Bloomington, IN. I looked at her through the fence; she looked back at me, not barking a word and was sitting there very pristinely. I opened the gate to take her out for a walk just to see if we had "chemistry" together. I bent down to put the leash on her collar when all of a sudden she turned her face to mine and gave me the biggest lick on my right cheek as though to say, "Thank you, are you taking me home?"

I fell in love with Mandy-Girl right on the spot! I told her daddy, "This was the one" even though he wanted to check out a couple of other "prospects." I went along with him; checking out the others, but we both came right back to Mandy-Girl. We decided, "she was the one." She was special.

We had to wait a 3-day period before we could bring her home. They had to check us out; to make sure we would be good "parents." We went back in three days; they were so happy for us -- they had checked us out thoroughly. "We would love to be an addition to the Wilson household," they told us. They said, "Your vet had nothing but praises to say about you; they wished all of their clients would take care of their "family members" like you did." We were so excited; we got to take her home that afternoon.

From that day on, we were inseparable. Mandy-Girl never left my side when I was home. She would follow me from room to room just to make sure I was there and was OK. For 16 wonderful years, we took care of each other; through the rough times; through the happy times. But her body finally just gave out during those last days. I asked the good Lord to give me a sign when it was time -- it was evident that she could no longer stay with me. It was time to go to be with Penny, Cleo, and Bogie at Rainbow Bridge. Until we meet again, my Mandy-Girl....We love you!

Please also visit Bogie.
