May 2008, on a mission to find a protector, my daughter and I went to the SPCA to find a new dog to join our family as a protector (our current retrievers were lovers not fighters) and a friend. We wanted a dog to love, to train, and to share out lives with. Akira was only 4 months old and so full of energy. Although she had no training she was eager to please and was amenable to corrections for jumping up even before we left the pound. We were so excited about the relationship we were going to build with the new addition to our family. She was such a beautiful German shepherd and I honestly can't believe someone had given her the pound. Her full black blanket coat seemed to be the only possible "fault" I could see. ----- |
