Welcome to Athena Polglaze's Rainbow Bridge Memorial Residency
Memories of Athena Polglaze
Athena (T) was very unique & special. She was rescued from a shelter at the age of 3, without knowing at all what her previous living conditions had been like. Her mom took her in from a friend that realized she couldn't give her the home she deserved. Athena had some habits and behaviors that signified trauma as she was growing up. She had severe anxiety with thunder and separation. She would close her eyes and crouch down in fear if you ever raised a hand. She would run away with her treats and attempt to bury them with invisible dirt. It wasn't long before Athena knew she was in a proper loving home, and had a lifelong best friend, that she began to warm up and trust others as well. Athena had the kind of warmth, humor, and quirky personality that no dog can ever replace. She had a big piece of her mama's heart. Unfortunately, in late 2019, Athena was diagnosed with Lymphoma. After a successful 9 months of chemotherapy treatment, Athena spent almost an extra year afterwards in remission. She was happy, strong, and back to her normal self. In July of 2021, Athena crossed the rainbow bridge. She finally got to enjoy a piece of chocolate and felt comfortable with her loved ones staying by her side in her final moments. Thank you for giving your mom so many years of joy, silliness, companionship, motherhood, and (never too many) smelly kisses. I know you're up there chasing ducks, staring down squirrels, stopping to smell allll the plants & flowers, waking your friends up with your beautiful singing, and eating all the popcorn your heart desires. We love and miss your presence every day, sweet girl.
