Clyde chose us one cold winter day in January. He had been the neighbors cat. When they moved out, they didn't take him with them. Once, when they returned for their mail, he started to excitedly run towards them, but they quickly drove off, abandoning him to the elements. We were watching from inside the home we'd just purchased through our windows. His head was hung low as he slowly walked with a slight deformity in his hind legs, towards our home, after his previous owners had driven off He would initially come scratching on our door for food, until the weather grew colder and we decided to give him a fur-ever home. Our fondest memory of him, is in the way in which he demonstrated love. He would bow his head completely over your foot and caress it with his head! Unfortunately, we learned within a few months that he had Stomatitis, and was in a lot of pain. The neighbors probably realized this and didn't or couldn't food the Vet bills. He initially got steroid shots every 6 months. And, finally a Veterinarian who had just set up a dental practice, recommended removing all of Clyde's teeth as a treatment. After the teeth were removed, Clyde went from bad to worse and was profusely bleeding from the mouth. His once friendly disposition was changed into very vicious behavior, where he was in constant anguish and living a miserable existence. He was taken to an emergency Animal Hospital, who learned that the teeth had been removed with pliers and many of the roots remained, which was creating the problem! We were mortified to learn that we had entrusted the life of our fur-child to a cruel butcher. We took Clyde to a Feline specialist who did the appropriate tests on Clyde before properly removing the remaining roots and did an excellent reconstruction surgery. Clyde recovered and lived happily and pain-free for an additional 3 years, before passing at a Veterinarian's office. He had a beautiful, glossy, black coat. And, his walk was very distinctive because he had an angular deformity in his back legs that caused his legs to turn inwards. But, mostly, we miss his fierce, feisty and friendly nature. He was gone too soon.
