My Dearest Fred, On 11-25-13 I brought you home from OC Animal Care. At first, I was somewhat hesitant about adopting you because you were 8 years old and I had always adopted younger dogs. You were a good looking dog with cropped ears and a docked tail. I think your ears were cropped since they stood. The time we had together was priceless..... You came with the name Boo Boo but it was changed to Fred. And I used to call you Fred Boo Boo. Interestingly, OC Animal Care accidentally included your previous owner's name and phone number in your paperwork. One Labor Day weekend I got brave and called your owner. We spoke for awhile and he said you ran away and he wasn't able to claim you. I gave him my contact information in the event he wanted to visit us but never heard back from him. On 02-13-19 the decision to put you to sleep was made. Your dementia, increase in the number of seizures you were having, decreased appetite, heart murmur (grade 3/6) and the fact that you were losing your eyesight all robbed you of a good quality of life. The Fred I adopted was much different than the Fred I had to put down. I can't even begin to describe in words how unpleasant bereavement is to go through. I experience your constant lack of presence daily. I read short stories online about people who have lost family members and think of ways to memorialize you. I am constantly fatigued, have problems concentrating and days gone by are just a blur. As difficult as your care had become during the last month or so, it's harder to live without you. I hope you are well wherever you may be. All My Love, Cari |
