Shay came into my life at age 5+ years, having cycled out of 2 homes and into rescue. While we bonded immediately, it was a year later when I sensed he had finally relaxed and his happy, joyful personality came blasting into full presence. He was smart, quick and always on alert (you know, UPS zombies🙄). I have come to call him my "bridge" dog - metaphorically, he carried me over troubled waters and difficult times, giving me purpose and unconditional love. Literally, he sat by my side 3 years ago as we drove over the bridge that brought us to a new home. And finally, he was a bridge of trust, by letting another human into his heart and helping me to begin a new relationship. It was then my turn to be his bridge, to give an act of unconditional love and help Shay find the light and love to carry him to the rainbow bridge. I will miss him every day, I will carry him in my heart forever, and I will celebrate the resilient heart he carried. |
