The words to this song says it all. This poor pup was chained & left to die. HOW can anyone do such a horrible thing? I just don't get it.

The history of the German Shepard: IF any breed of dog is most deserving of the title NOBLE with natural beauty then that dog is the German Shepard. This is a dog of elegant yet flowing lines, glamorous to behold, with a shining coat, erect ears, & an intelligent expression that will command attention wherever he is seen. His eyes indicate the love & affection he has for those who care for him & his sweeping tail will show his mood whether it be happy or sad.

By nature, shepards are wary of strangers, though once one is accepted by him, he is a friend for life. He is an efficient obedience worker, quick to learn & what is learned will never be forgotten. It is an active breed & thrives on work...little is beyond its capabilities. Fleet of foot, powerful yet graceful & nimble, he's the epitome of those qualities considered to be ideal within a dog.

He loves human companionship & will respond to his owner's mood whether this be lying quietly by his side or romping across the fields. At all times, his one desire is to be with his owner & to please the owner.

He has a keen sense of humor & enjoys playing games YET, in defense of those he loves, he can become a frightening adversary that one would be well advised to keep clear of.

THAT is the kind of pup Shepp was. He just wanted a human to call his own.

Here is Shepps story.

Shepp was a German Shepard. A very handsome boy. Shepp had been dumped at an abandoned home in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was left for WELL over a MONTH, to die with NO FOOD OR WATER & CHAINED to the extent that his collar was embedded in his skin.

The neighbors SAW him suffering yet NOBODY called or did ANYTHING until it was too late. Someone had placed food BY him BUT he was TOO weak to even get up to eat. Someone contacted KZTV, a news station that stands up for people & animals alike.

He was found in horrific conditions on 9.16.08. Parts of his bones were exposed due to constant friction from TRYING to move.

He was found laying on CONCRETE, under a carport, UNABLE to even get up from his side & with what appeared to be a wound to his neck. BARELY within reach, was an overturned bucket with some dry food.

Shepp squirmed in an attempt to move when the Animal Control officers arrived. He was UNABLE to budge but a few inches. His ribs were protruding through the skin...he ONLY weighed 43 lbs. LESS THAN HALF OF WHAT IS CONSIDERED A HEALTHY WEIGHT. His skin was growing OVER his collar & there were wounds all over his little body. His skin & muscle had worn through due to the friction of him struggling on the cement, with approx. 1 inch of shoulder bone exposed.

Shepps' case is being labeled as THE worst case of animal abuse/neglect that local officers have EVER seen.

A neighbor told reporters that "a man in a tan colored Ford Ranger dropped Shepp off about a month ago at a vacant home. She said in the news report that she knew the dog was indeed THING but didn't know what to expect until this past Monday when the dog apparently got loose from whatever means the man had used to tie it up."

The vehicle was found at another residence. The owner of the home CLAIMED to know the owner of the truck but COULDN'T remember his name DESPITE it being her BROTHER-IN-LAW. I am guessing she had a memory lapse. According to her, this person said he FOUND the dog.

Sadly, Animal Control Director, Kelli Copeland explainded how this case & so many others fall SHORT of PROPER investigation & prosecution due to LIMITED resources. When there is a child abuse case versus an animal abuse case, current available resources go to the child.

Shepp WAS removed from these horrible conditions in which he was found but he did not make it. He had the will to live but his poor little body couldn't take it due to the extreme neglect he endured for over a month.

There is a petition for Shepp. In fact, the person who started the petition was able to visit with Shepp just before he passed. She wanted to hold a fundraiser for this beautiful boy. She said that when she went back to see him, he was propped up with pillows & he had a vet tech with him at ALL times. What she saw was a loving pup who was receiving compassion & love from all around him. Too bad he didn't receive that when he was really needing it. She said he wagged his tail weakly & tried to lift his head. Sadly, Shepp made his journey to the bridge later on that afternoon. According to the woman who wrote his petition..."THE NEIGHBORHOOD IS MORE THAN GUILTY...IT WOULD HAVE TAKEN A SIMPLE PHONE CALL."

How true is that last statement? JUST ONE PHONE CALL & Shepp would still be alive. How sad.

As of 10.01.2008, two arrests have been made. It looks like their trial was to start 3.9.2008. That was Tuesday.

Shepp...you NEVER had the love that you so deserved. You were let down by those that were suppose to care for you. I will NEVER understand what goes through the heads of those people. NEVER!!! How can someone just dump you & leave you for dead?

Shepp...you will NEVER have to worry about having clean water or lots of food. You HAVE all you could ever want at the bridge. And you are getting ALL of the love that you didn't get here on earth. I have told Cole to gather you & Regina & the other abused babies & keep you with him & the rottie gang. You are safe now. No more pain...no more being chained...no more abuse. Nothing but love & gentle belly rubs for such a dear, sweet boy.

I can't say this enough...WE MUST STOP ALL ABUSE. WE HAVE TO MAKE THAT CALL IF WE EVER SEE ANYONE HIT, KICK, SHOOT OR DO ANYTHING WRONG TO NOT ONLY THESE POOR, VOICELESS SOULS BUT TO ANY HUMANS. They have been in Court a few times now. I wish we could do to them what they did to you but we all know that even if they get prison time, they will get fed 3 times a day. 10.01.2009...Well, I am NOT happy with the outcome of the trial for you. The Judge that oversaw this trial is NOT a dog lover. Your abusers got a fine & probation. What did YOU get? Chained... dumped, left to starve to death...never knowing what loving hands felt like. You didn't deserve this. In the END, your abusers WILL face their maker & you will be right there by GOD's side. Your abusers will see YOUR face. And it's OK for you to growl at them.
