Memories of Stanley
Today we lost our beautiful furry best friend Stan. We are trying not to be sad since he gave us so much joy in his 14+ years. A month after my husband was deployed in 2009 while we were living in CA, I was with a friend and we decided to visit an ASPCA remote adoption shelter. I had no intention of getting a kitten but I picked up this cute little fellow who tenderly touched my nose with his paw. The name "Stan the Man" immediately came to mind. Little did we know this little guy with the big paws and ears was a Mainecoone. He entertained us with his clown like antics and extreme hunting skills. When we relocated to Alabama, we had a nice yard for Stan to explore. He would bring us quite a collection of animals (dead and alive) through our basement cat door (rabbits, mice, moles, snakes, lizards, chipmunks, one time a squirrel and bat!). He also was king of the jungle - he was a fierce defender of his territory when it came to other cats who would dare enter our yard!
Although he was an avid outdoorsman, Stan was a total lap cat and was affectionate and friendly to everyone he came across. He was my nursemaid whenever I was sick and had surgeries - he never left my side. He also loved his Dad and give him plenty of lap time!
Our hearts are broken but we are so glad we had to chance to adopt this wonderful creature. We hope to see him at the Rainbow Bridge when our time comes,🌈
