Memories of Spunky
I found Spunky in a pet store in Orlando, Florida, a long way from Canada. She was so small that she fit in the palm of my hand. Without a doubt, this little pup was born in a puppy mill, dumped at a pet store, and God made me go shopping that day to find her. We did a lot of travelling, my girl and I, but she loved the car or the van, and would put her head on my lap, or lie on her pillow between the seats with her head touching my chair. It was love for both of us. Spunk had a stroke while we lived in Oklahoma and it was a neighborhood chore of love to keep her calm and still while she healed. The woman next door came in to give her needles, because Mommy wasn't supposed to hurt her. We slept on the floor in the living room for about two months while she was healing. Then came the happy day when she could actually take a few steps again and we worked our way back to almost perfection. Her tail never did wag from side to side but always went in a circle and so the vet nick-named her "little helicopter-tail girl". She loved her vets and they loved her back. But Mommy was hers and so was the bedroom...nobody, but nobody could come into her room without permission. Pretty impressive for a 12 pound toy poodle. I miss her so very much. She slept on her back beside me so that her tummy could always get a rub and Mommy could always feel when the seizures would start. Spunk, you fought hard and loved deeply; you turned "no pets allowed folks" into "come in please spunky" people. Play on my baby, enjoy your new-found health and friends but remember that Mommy will always have you in her heart until we meet again. Kiss, kiss...I love you...Mommy
