I will never forget the day we went to see him for the first time -- he nearly knocked me down. We wanted to take him home immediately, but were told not yet. We needed the appropriate papers. We were almost home when we were called back. Tobias never left the spot we last saw him. We returned to take him back with us. Who rescued who? He chose us! He loved to walk and explore. He was a beagle but had the bark of a Labrador. We were told he never barked, but one night when I was in another room, I heard such a guttural and deep bark. It was Tobias! He made himself at home! Nine years later, we said our heartfelt good-byes. We know he is at peace now after a struggle with kidney disease. He never knew how to play, because he was bred to hunt. But he was fulfilled just being near me and waiting for his daily walks. I loved walking with him! He introduced me to places I would never have ventured to! My sweet Tobias, my dear friend and companion. I treasure you!!!! |
