She (Ziggy) and I met in late 2011 when she was 18 months old, as a foster. She was being fostered by a neighbor of our's (me and my husband) that was volunteering with the same rescue. Her name at that time was Missy (didn't fit her at all, LOL). She didn't initially like our other dog, Kirby, but he really liked her. So, after a few pass by's on the street, she was okay with him. She didn't enjoy adoption events and would make her displeasure known the whole time. She wasn't nearly as vocal at home, but she was definitely the boss. LMAO. We adopted her only a few months after she came into our home and that's where our challenges began. She and I didn't exactly like each other the first 6 months. She was VERY stubborn and independent, two personality traits I was NOT used to with our other dog. But once we got past that, mostly because I bent to her ways LOL, she was just the BEST! She outlived Kirby (RIP) and another dog we had, Jazzy (RIP) to make it to just over 15 years old. She had some medical issues the last 6 months we were trying to manage, but she just didn't like any food consistently. So, one night she got a bath and the next morning she just wasn't eating anything. Didn't want to move. Was breathing rapidly. So we called her vet and they couldn't get her in, so we took her to the emergency vet. She was apparently bleeding internally from cancer (we weren't told that at any of our numerous visits to the vet in the 4 months prior to that date), and we let her go. We now have another beagle, Henry, and he is very much loved. But he has come from a vastly different and more difficult background than Ziggy. I think Ziggy knew we needed another dog and sent him to us. We miss you TERRIBLY Ziggy and will see you later. Have fun monitoring Fred, Jean, Kirby, and Jazzy. |
