Bear Friend

Memories of Bear.....black and white manx with big big eyes. Quiet, sweet, gentle. Spent alot of time under the bed covers. Loved to hide. Very smart. Would pound on the doors and windows when he wanted inside. He'd stand on his two hind legs and knock with both paws until somebody listened. Watched for the neighbors after they moved and we adopted him for good. He and his pal, Cody, who was dropped off at our house were buddies. They both stared into the backyard next door after the family who temporarily took care of them moved. They sat side by side staring. Bear had alot of arthritis in his back legs and was losing bowel control. Had to sleep in the garage in his bed. I hope he understands why we had to put him to sleep. We had seven good years together. We put a flower on the windowsill where he used to bang the window to get our attention. We will continue to change the flowers. Bear had lots of furry brothers and sisters. I feel guilty because if he were our only cat, I could have cared for him a bit longer. I think I could have set up our large kennel in the garage. Made sure he was warmer with some sort of safe cat warmer in his bed, carried him around and loved him more. The vet was very compassionate. I said if there is anything we can give him to get his back legs going,we wouldn't have to put him to sleep. He said there was a liquid therapy or something like that which we could try but it probably wouldn't help that much. I told him I just couldn't handle it anymore. And he said "nobody could". Anyway, he stroked Bear, examined him and said, Well, let me take him. He gently picked him up and took him out of the room. And Bear wasn't scared. He just looked around with his big eyes. I am hoping he just got some very good sleep medicine, and his legs didn't hurt anymore and he went into a deep peaceful sleep.
