Holly my beautiful Border Collie
by Becky Hodson.........................................
Holly - Where do i start? She was such an amazing dog...the only place I can start is...the begining...where the happy memories start.

Holly was born on 1st April 1999. She was a blue tri-colour Border Collie...the most beautiful dog i had ever seen. I loved her from the first moment I saw her. I also had a new best friend.
I was 14 years old when I had her...and almost eveything I did...she would be by my side. I couldn't wait to take her out and show her off to the world. People would often stop and comment about how beautiful she was...I was so proud of her.

I started taking Holly to puppy classes on a Tuesday night at a local rugby club ground where they also did agility. At the end of each month there would be a test and if she passed she would be moved up. She passed every test and before I knew it I was training her to do agility. I entered her into a competition...It was a red hot day...I tried keeping her out of the sun to keep cool. But she was just too hot. Our turn came...everything started off ok...until we got to the A-frame. She got to the top and just stayed there...looking about without a care in the world. I kept calling her to come down but she wasn't having any of it. After about 5 minutes she decided to come down and managed to finish the course...We came last in the competition!

After that I decided to drop the agility classes and started an obedience class at another club...We ended up in the demonstration team. They also did fly-ball...which Holly loved.

I taught Holly a lot of tricks such as spinning in a circle, bow, rolling over, dancing on her back legs, weaving through my legs, playing dead, and jumping through my arms. She also used 2 carry the news paper back from the shop...or a small bag of pigeon corn...she didn't mind which. She would keep jumping up me until I let her carry it.

My mom had a little maltease cross cavalier king charles 'Meg' who sadly had 2 be put to sleep. Holly was 8 years old and copied some of the things that Meg did. So when she was gone...Holly was a bit lost without her.

A few months later...We had another Border Collie called Belle. She was 6 years old and from the rescue centre. Holly soon got used to her. And Belle even started copying Holly.

Two years later...a week before Christmas...Holly would go in 'quiet' moods. Which was really unlike her. She would just lie down and didn't want to do anything. We took her to the vets...they did numerous tests on her.
On Thursday 17th December I had a phone call with the news I had been dreading....She had cancer. I broke down...I was about to lose my best friend.

I wanted one last weekend with her...I got my wish. Holly seemed like she had nothing wrong with her. It was as though she had a new lease of life. It snowed that weekend...Holly loved it. She would stand at the top of the steps whining...waiting for us to throw her a snowball. It seemed like it had just snowed for her one last time.

On Monday 21st December Holly was really quiet again. At 11pm we had to take her to the emergency vets. She had no energy at all and was finding it hard to breathe. I knew it was time to let her go.

She slipped away in my arms...my beautiful girl was gone.
My heart broke in two. Id lost my one and only true faithful friend.
she was so special to me...who was going to put their paw on me just to let me know she was there? Who was going to nuzzle me when im feeling down?

I miss her so much...but wherever I am...she will be right there in my heart.

I Love you Holly and always will...I will come for you someday and we will be reunited once again.
