You came into my life
In an unexpected way
I had stopped to visit family
On an ordinary day
I stepped into the garage
And from underneath the bench
I heard a fearful cry
That at once I had to quench
I peered into the gloom
Searched out in hope to find
The owner of that sound
That touched this heart of mine
It was love at first sight
As I stared into your eyes
You were so beautiful
That I was mesmerized
I’d never know what brought you here
Or what course your life had taken
What separated you from family
That left you scared and shaken
You see I had lost my parents too
Their loss an empty space
It had not even been a year
Since daddy left this place
You were like an angel
Sent from up above
To give my life some meaning
And fill it up with love
But you needed someone too
Someone to keep you warm
Someone to watch over you
And keep you safe from harm
So I made to you a promise
That started then and there
To always protect and love you
And give you the best of care
There were times I fell and stumbled
And failed you terribly
Yet you overlooked my faults
Loving unconditionally
As I struggled with my own issues
That came from living day to day
You kept your steadfast vigil
In your unassuming way
In your 18th year
You heard a calling from above
You gave me 8 weeks more
To learn the last lesson of your love
In the end I knew
That someday we had to part
So I counted all the paw-prints
That you left upon my heart
I remembered that promise
That to you I did recite
And altho’ it broke my heart
I fulfilled it just last night
Oh, Boots, I hope you’re happy
With butterflies to chase
That days are filled with sunshine
To glow upon your face
Someday soon I’ll find you
My heart will be my guide
I’ll meet you at the bridge
To walk forever by your side
Boots, I don’t know how to thank you
For all the days and nights that
Would otherwise have been empty
Without your meows, purrs and bashes!
I will always love you!
Your Mommy,
Billie
