Candy was a very special dog that came into our lives in 2001. In 1999, we had lost our beloved Black Lab, Dandy. We had Dandy for 13 years and all of us kids grew up with her. It washard on us and our parents to lose our dog...and so we waited a while before looking for another dog.
A friend of my mother's had a sweet golden retriever wander into her yard. Candy was abandoned by her previous owner. She was given to a golden retriever rescue shortly there after. We found out about her story within a few weeks a her going to the rescue.
The gentleman who took her into foster care loved her dearly but knew that if he kept her, he couldn't foster anymore dogs. The best that the vets could guess is that she was about 12 years old. We decided to meet her and we fell instantly in love with her. Despite her advanced age, she was highly energetic and love to play fetch. She immeadiatly took to my dad and was his best companion.
We knew that we wouldn't have a long time with her but we gave her as much love and affection in the time that we had with her. Sadly, after just a year with her, her hips and knees started to give out on her. it's a common problem with golden retrievers. We took her to the vet and he said to give it a month or two to see if it heals. We did, and she just kept getting worse. While surgery was an option, it wouldn't likely be successful since she would have more stress on her body. Two days after Christmas, she passed on and is now with the Lord.
Even though she was only with us for a short time, we were very blessed to have her in our live.
Candy, we love you very much and we hope you are safe and happy.
