He's black, furry, has soft fuzzy pointed ears, a slightly curled tail, purple tongue, big black nose and big brown eyes. He is our "Buddy Dog". He is half black Chow Chow and half Austrian Shepherd mutt. Buddy is almost 12 years old.
His Dad (John) got him when he was about 8 weeks old. He knew that the neighbors dog had had puppies and that they were ready to go. So, he went in search of his dog. The lady brought out a pile of black fur in her arms, she laid them all down for him to check out. John grabbed the biggest dog but he didn't look quite right. Then this one came out of the middle and pushed his way through. John pushed him aside in search of another. None of them seemed like "his" dog. Once again, the same one pushed through and put his head under John's hand! He had been picked! He picked him up and he looked into those eyes and that was it. It was wintertime and snowing, so, John wrapped him up in his coat. Almost home he realized he had no idea what sex the dog was. He checked him out and saw he was a boy. John's only son.
Buddy got his name because, as John puts it, that's what he was, everyone's Buddy! Buddy was a loving dog. He loved to give away puppy hugs by leaning his head into you. He even has his own songs, John's daughter Shannon made one up for dinnertime called the Buddy Bowl song. Then one time when Alecia and Austin were here, I started singing, "Buddy dog, he's the Buddy dog.....Buddy dog, he's the Buddy dog! Austin sang the song the rest of the day!
Buddy loved his Dad more than anything in this world!
He also loved to find the squeaker in his toys and continuously squeak it until someone paid attention, especially when company came over! He loved his puppy pigs ears to chew on.
When John and I got together, at night Buddy would sleep on my side of the bed, of course, Dad would call him traitor dog but he didn't care. I think that was because when we first got together I didn't work for 9 months! I was there to comfort him everyday when his dad had to go to work and he got distressed. He grew to love me very fast because I would comfort him. He also would come to me with that "Pitiful Puppy Look" in his eyes when I was eating. He would lay his head down on top of my leg, drool puddles and stare up at me while whining. He knew I couldn't say no and he took advantage of that! I even gave him his first chocolate. John got upset but it takes alot of chocolate to make a dog sick and I never gave him that much!
Everyday when we got home he went nuts. Who else do you know in this world that is that happy to see you? He made us feel good because we were loved. Far more than either one of us will ever realize!
Even when he got sick he would go in the kitchen or bathroom so, that it was easier to clean up!
Another thing he liked to do when he got excited was to walk between your legs while you were walking, it was pretty funny.
Buddy dog, you will be missed but I know you will be waiting for us at the end of "The Rainbow Bridge" with all your puppy hugs! Until then........
I Love You Duddy Bog! Cheryl
