Scrounger Went Home
by Chris Vaughn.........................................
Just a note to say goodbye to a small furry friend. She never was tame, one of the feral colony I care for. But her Mom and Dad were the first 2 ferals that I adopted, or that adopted me. Elmo showed up one nite in Dec 01 during a winter storm, crying to get out of the cold. He was quite the magnificent black cat back then. Anyways after the storm was gone and sun came out he went on his way...only to return with "the family" ... yup, his girlfriend who we named Momma Kat, and 2 kittens. One looked just like "daddy" and we named her Emma, the other looked like her "momma" and we named her "Scrounger." Since then I have moved and brought the 4 of them with us. That was in 05. Elmo and Momma Kat are still with us, tho they live inside now in the spare room we call "The Geezer Room." My guess is that they are around 14 yrs old or so, not many teeth left, not much fur either. Emma is still around too, in fact I bring her in when weather too bad if i can catch her (50/50) but Scrounger was never catchable. So a couple days ago when she didn't come out of the shelter to eat, I reached in and picked her up and knew her time was about over. She had little desire for food or drink and today I took her in to see the vet who recommended "the shot." So they gave her something to make her sleep and I stayed with her and rubbed her ears and head until she lie down. Poor little one, your fight is over, I know you had to go to the bridge. R.I.P. little Scrounger.
