Shadow Eyes, Pretty Girl Smile

Shadow Eyes, Pretty Girl Smile

I hear your footsteps coming up the hallway. You stand so close to me with those Shadow Eyes and that Pretty Girl Smile. Then you gently brush my cheek and whisper in my ear about the love and trust we cherished for so many years.

And all I can see is your Shadow Eyes and your Pretty Girl Smile.

Then you turn and walk back down that hallway to rest in your bed.

Time stands still and I walk down that hallway to kiss you and say goodnight. I see your bed is empty and wonder where you have gone. I catch a glimpse of an angel guiding you under her wing through the door and realize our time together had come to pass.

Then I walk back up that hallway with my aching heart.

I brush away my tears and think back to those 18 years. Those precious moments that we shared, the day you came into my life, the long walks we took in the bright sunshine, your head held high, the games we played, the way you scoffed at old man winter with his cloak of white, those subtle pushes to say let's go, the way you made me laugh, your gentle kisses upon my face, the times I wasted away that I should have spent with you. I love you and miss you baby girl.

Shadow Eyes, Pretty Girl Smile

I hear your voice and go outside to see you playing with the Angel beneath your favorite tree. You run to me and my heart shatters to the ground. You look at me with those Shadow Eyes and that Pretty Girl Smile. Then you pick up all the pieces of my heart and place them in my hand. Then you gently brush my cheek to whisper in my ear that you had not forgotten and about a love that time cannot take away.

I go back inside the house and can only hope when I walk back down that hallway, I'll see you resting in your bed.
