Did You Know?
by Christy Morano Smith.........................................
Did You Know?

As I sit here alone, missing your meow and your purring, playing and putting on a show;
I wonder and cannot help but ask, Did you know that it was soon to be your time to go?

You stayed by my side, day and night; those last few days, you were next to me always.
Did you know that your furry body was broken, soon to give way to eternal rest?

You tried, in your own way, of that I am certain, to tell me that your body was hurting.
Did you feel death's presence; did know that it would soon be your time to go?

You tried to tell me, of that I am sure, that you were getting sick but not to worry;
Did you know, Sweet Beloved Kitty of Mine, that you would have to depart in such a hurry?

You laid your head on my hand that afternoon at the doctors, after they gave you blood;
Did you know something, Sweet Spike, something I did not but that I should?

You looked at me like you wanted to come home to go to sleep;
Did you know that afternoon as you watched me walk away, that soon you would rest in peace?

I should have begged to stay to be at your side or at least to take you home;
It breaks my heart I was not there, that for all the love and companionship you so freely gave;
How could I desert you and let you die alone?

Did you know?

I didn't know; but I wish I had, that God was taking you home.
I would change anything to have you by my side and here with me again.
I know that I will see you again at The Rainbow Bridge; but it seems so far away.
I am so glad you have no more discomfort, that you are alive and whole as you once were.
I try not to grieve, because I know I will see you again; but each day feels like an eternity,
Until once again, we meet with glad joy andfinally, you are again with me.
