Today is the anniversary of our last day together. Oh how you tried so hard to fool me into thinking that you were no longer sick, and to pick up my spirits. We sat there together at the kitchen table and shared hot dogs together. Then you ate a whole cup of dry food from my hand, eating your last meal. I held you and gave you a kiss and we all put on our leads and walked outside in the sun. You stood high on your hind legs and barked at the people walking by as you did when you were well...oh trying to make me think you were no longer sick. But then you tired and I carried you up the stairs....I called Mommy and told her what you did, and for a moment thought this was a miracle recovery, but then Mommy and I on the phone knew that you were trying to fool us. As your breathing labored that night we knew that your time had come, but you loved us so much that you did not want to see us suffer bringing you to the vet to be "put down" in our arms and left on your own in mommy's arms.
