My pal Petey
by Darrel .........................................
My pal Petey

My best friend left me today
She had to go
And I
I had to stay

We'd sit in our chair
She in my lap
We'd read a book, watch TV
Or both have a nap

Now I'm alone
I sit and I cry
The tears roll freely
Without her by my side

I can't eat, I can't sleep
Have to remember to breathe
But I couldn't let her suffer
She had to be free

I'll get through this
Someday, somehow
But to you my dear Petey
I make this solemn vow

I'll never forget you
You'll never be far
When the darkness is upon me
You're my bright shining star

She sleeps now
In silent repose
Soon there beside her
I'll plant her a rose

And when I go
That's where I'll be scattered
Right there with my Baby
For our life ever after

Lord, when I die
If You'll give me a home
I expect to see Petey
Right there at Your throne

And you know, Lord
We shouldn't be apart
Because when You took her that day
She went with my heart

So please let us be
Together again
It's just too hard
Without my best friend

In loving memory
Of Petey
