My Friend
by David Coombes

Black and white and mad
The definition of a lad
Always up to something
A crashing and a jumping

The little run down the stairs
A happy man with no cares
A binky here, a binky there
A little cuddle ready to share

He loved his treats
And his green leafy eats
The plants out the back
He just loved to attack

He never asked
He never sought
And to the last
His fun he brought

He came with love and a big heart
That’s why it’s so hard to be apart

Still you are here
That much is clear
You see us grieve
So you won’t leave

So when all pain falls away
On that our last dying day
When we tumble over that mortal ridge
We’ll see there at the rainbow bridge.

So let’s be happy he was yours and sometimes mine
Our furry little
Ray of sunshine
