Shaggy
by Denise Johnson.........................................
My Shaggy was a beautiful boy - a free giveaway out of a laundry basket. His eyes filled with love and his heart bigger than life. He was an Akita Chow with an unusual shape. You see Shaggy had a spinal defect that i knew nothing about. His spine grew tightly connected so he was short in length. Everyone that saw him thought he was the most amazing dog they had ever seen. He enjoyed the attention and never left my side. Children loved him and adults admired him. Two Halloweens ago my Shaggy sat down at the front door to watch the children and his spine just gave out. Paralyzed from the front shoulders back he could not walk. I took him to the doctor the next morning where it was indicated he had the spine defect. My Shaggy would never walk again. He is with the other furry friends now laughing, jumping and running. It broke my heart to say goodbye to my friend. But a happy ending was in the cards...you see before he left he managed to leave 2 gifts. Shaggy mated with our lab sheppard and 2 pups were born. One is an identical twin to his father. Blonde, caramel and love in his eyes. The other all black, head to toenails. There names are Shaggy Jr. and Scooby. Full of spunk, energy and love. Shaggy has the same spine defect as his father so we are very watchful over him. We had his dad for 1 year and 3 months. We have been graced with the pups for almost 2 years now. I can't express how my heart cries when I talk to him. I still feel the warmth of his kisses at night - the smell of his fur and see the love in his son's eyes. I miss my Shaggy - I miss him very much. The doctor that helped us that day sent me the RainBow Bridge poem. I have that poem framed with my favorite picture of Shaggy. That picture hangs on the wall so that I can remember that he is now in a good place where he can walk again. I love you boy. One day we will see each other again. Kisses and hugs big guy - kisses and hugs.
