The Life of Maggie May, Our Baby Girl
by Denise & Toby Parks.........................................
This journey began in December 1994 in the high desert of California. A dog I had semi adopted was killed by a semi on the highway, which also happened to be on my B-Day. Toby your human brother was in 2nd grade at that time, and your Daddy, my husband Stephen, may he rest in peace as well, knew of my love for animals. He took me to the shelter one day as a surprise and as we watched all the puppies he said "That's the one" and from that day forward you became "his" Baby Girl. We brought you home at 8 weeks old and you fit in the palms of my hands. When your human brother Toby got home from school that afternoon, we were waiting there for him on the front porch. How excited he was to see you and all you did was lick his face and piddle you were so excited. You did do that a lot when Daddy gave you love, you would piddle right there on the spot. And oh how you loved us and we loved you. Your name came from the Rod Stewart song Maggie May.

Our journey then leads us from the desert to the Rocky Mountains of Colorado in 1994. You always were a Daddy's Girl; he couldn't even step in the door and talk to me or your brother before he loved her first. If we went anywhere you went with us, of course you did you were our daughter. You loved the creeks we would go hiking at and to play in the snow. Sadly Daddy passed away on June 14th 1999. You were so lost, every time you heard a car door or someone walking by, your floppy doodle ears would perk right up. In time you became Mama's Little Girl, you were always my daughter and your brother's sister...

Your brother Toby and I decided to move West back home to California in 2001. But we had to get ourselves situated before we could bring you out with us; so you stayed with Uncle Dougie for about six months. When we arrived to pick you up, you actually climbed the chain link fence and wiggled all over the place you were so excited to see us. We were equally as excited to see you! We brought you home to California; where we had a back yard for you, and brother Toby had placed seashells spelling out "Welcome Home Maggie May".

Then you became one of the "boys" when ever brother Toby was in his room and his friends were over you were always one of them. If they got out of line, you were there to bark at them to control themselves. You spent so much time in his room I had to move your food in there! All the "boys" miss you, almost as much as we miss you. Even Vincent your furry little brother is not quite sure what is going on, how he loved to pat your back when you would come in from a walk and would run over to get treats, but always knew ladies were first.

We have so MANY wonderful memories of you from the desert to the Rockies to the ocean. We can only say thank you for all those memories and the unconditional love that you gave us. Even when you died in your brother's arms the love was unconditional and we knew you were at peace. We were both there with you in those last moments. We take comfort knowing that your death was quick and you did not suffer, that you were at home and you were a pup to the very end, just as playful and spry as ever. And you aged very well, there was barely any gray on you and no one could believe that you were 13. Because your death was so sudden, no sickness or anything, your brother Toby and your Mommy are having a hard time of losing you, but we take comfort in knowing that you are with Daddy now, running along the streams, playing ball with him and probably piddling all over the place. And he is probably saying, "Bless her pea-picking little heart".

We love you and miss you terribly; and there will always be an empty place at home, but in our hearts and souls we still have all the love and memories of our precious sweet baby girl Maggie May.
